I think the moving comic style the show was done in worked really well for it, i dont think it wouldve done better with straightforward animation.
The big problem back in the day was the way it aired, if you watch it all at once like you can now its easy to follow but back then it aired all over the place and wouldve been confusing to follow whats going on with it.

I rewatched this and totally forgot how messed up sarah is in this. Sam gave her the best panels imo.
She really captures the whole angst ridden grungy loser some might have had experience with back in the day.
