I've been looking for something to watch recently, and there's a very specific thing I'd like to find. It has to be set in space on either spaceships or mecha (or both); it obviously has to have female protagonists (since this is the yuri thread); it has to have a decent, inspiring plot; and it can't be a spin-off of a larger franchise. Bonus points if the opening is by Chiaki Ishikawa and it's a hard sci-fi.

To give some idea of what I'm looking for: Simoun + Starship Operators + Rinne no Lagrange + Cowboy Bebop.

Finished Mouretsu Pirates. There were good arcs and there were bad arcs, but the good ones more than make up for the bad. There was some shoujo-ai but nothing explicit, which is a bit disappointing, considering that the series seemingly promises such developments at start. Nice art overall, but some scenes were especially well made. Great ending song.

Now I want more and perhaps something more serious. If I say yuri version of Eighty-Six in space, does that make sense?

Gotta love that technique when they show something and then "guess" what the viewers are thinking — often word for word. Only happens in anime for some reason.

So far Vividred has been delivering on the seriousness part despite the genre, both in tech and in drama. And it's funny how all military actions here are strangely reminiscent of NGE. Plus it's definitely thread-related, which is a cherry on top.
