>>444more like higuTRASHi with the way ryukishi has treated the franchise lately.
I'm gonna need a little more than that chief
>>477It's really wild that DEEN did relatively well with the higurashi anime but failed so spectacularly with the Umineko one. I don't get how DEEN is so hit or miss with nearly everything.
>>512DEEN Higu is still bad, and I'd honestly say every WTC adaptation and revision that isn't Stage of the Golden Witch is bad in all honesty.
But what makes the difference is the style of both stories.
Higurashi despite the looping is still a fairly straightforward story. There's a mystery, you gradually learn about it, and eventually the conclusion happens.
Compare that to Umineko and IMMINENT UMINEKO STRUCTURAL SPOILERS
Umineko is like this:
>Main story>Meta>Main story that also has Meta (Umi2/3)>TWO Main Stories and also Meta (Umi4)>Meta with a dash of main story (Umi5/6)>The Ending (Umi6)>Another two cour worth of primarily meta, backstory, and thematic reinforcement (Umi7/8)I would honestly say Umineko is unadaptable, but Stage of the Golden Witch has done a good job so far (only seen 1 and 2).
>>514And to clarify, the only good version of WTC for me is the original VN with the original sprites and backgrounds and music and sound effects, etc.
Everything else just adds a little bit too much for me and takes away from another layer of the story, but maybe I'm just autistic. I don't even think the voice acting in Higu and Umi is entirely necessary, and I think it makes some parts far sillier than intended (like the constant rambling scenes across both works, which sound just a bit more silly when a guy has to read out all of them).
I do imagine the LN adaptations of Higu and Umi are good though. From what I've heard, Keiichi is a bit more like Battler in the Higu LNs but beyond that they seem to be fine.
But the manga and anime just never did it for me and feel more like derivatives than anything, like when a video game is adapted into a movie. Sure, the plot is functionally the same, but you're conducting everything through a completely different medium, and with the revisions to the VN I feel the same thing.
When I see someone posting about the VN and they're using a patch, I just feel like I can't really comment, because by that point it's just a completely different VN.
The art is different, the backgrounds are different, the literal sound (maybe even music) is different, sometimes even the dialogue is different to align with voice acting (that's how it is in the Higu patches at least), and the big change is CGs- Higu has one CG, Umineko has 5 CGs. These patches add dozens in a completely different artstyle.
At a certain point, it stops being the same thing and I can't really relate to the person experiencing it, it's just very autistic.
figamin did you finished it? and you agree that the first chapter is the best one?
>>516I've actually been reading it a lot recently and I'm almost done (got past the connecting fragments section of matsuribayashi a few days ago)
Favorite chapter by far was Tsumihoroboshi though Tatarigoroshi was a close second. I just really enjoyed the whole ending sequence of that chapter in particular.
>>514Yeah I was pretty sad to see a Japanese anime reactor dude love higurashi but then not be able to get into it in the Kai seasons because it's just too much too fast and the characters all seem like stilted crazy people. Some things really only work well in a medium that has some text/the original medium (save for a really perfect adaptation)
>>517For me it's the first one because it's the scariest chapter and focuses more on rena (best girl).
>>523You missed the most important thing by a thousand 里: reading it in the original Japanese. It's honestly crazy to me how many people argue over stuff like Satoko's feelings for Keiichi while having read the entire VN in English translation
>>786imagine being the only male under the age of 20 in a small isolated mountain town in rural nippon during the 1980s.
What would Hanyuu do for a cream puff? That delicious delicacy she craves is something she would probably do ANYTHING for. What an amazingly powerful sweet, to be so effective on an alien-god. And yet, it would be so easy to tamper with that cream puff, to make Hanyuu move to your whims. Put in something spicy, and she'll cry. Put in an aphrodisiac, and she'll pounce you before long. But perhaps, if you fill it with something else…
Collecting a large amount of semen can be hard, but it's worthwhile as to your aims. Preparing it all in a large jar, hidden away in your room, is easy, if time consuming. Once you've got what you need, all you need is a syringe, and a cream puff. Hell, if you felt like going faster, you could probably go to Angel Mort and talk to all the otaku customers; they'll be sure to contribute to the nefarious scheme. However, you have later plans that would interfere with this, so you decide not to do that.
You start simple. Every day, you give Hanyuu a completely normal, completely innocent cream puff. This becomes a habit, a thing between the two of you. At lunch time at school, you open up your bento box and pass a cream puff to Hanyuu. She starts looking at you with sad, teary eyes if you take too long after a while, and that's when you know when to move to step two.
Now you start giving her the cum puffs. And miraculously, amazingly, she doesn't notice. What degeneracy must she have gotten up to in her youth? The idea boggles your mind, but furthers your boner. A step three and four are sure to follow after that showing. Each cum puff you serve her makes the next easier, your hands less sweaty, but your mind continues to race. You do this for a few months, in preparation for the next step.
Step three is finding out just how accustomed to the taste she is. You prepare a handmade cum puff, without any cream within it. You pass it to her, sweating bullets, screaming in your mind that this was a bad idea. She takes it with a smile and a hau~, puts it in her mouth, takes a bite, and swallows. The sound of her throat moving, the sign that this dirty goddess is eating YOUR semen, is both hot and scary as fuck.
…She takes another bite. She doesn't notice. You have successfully accustomed Hanyuu to the taste of cum instead of cream in her cream puffs. Excellent.
And now for step four. You get her a drink of milk to start the club day off right. Needless to say, it isn't milk. As she guzzles it down, you go close to her, and as she looks you dead in the eye in surprise, you tell her exactly what that liquid is. Her eyes dilate, her breathing grows heavy. She doesn't know what to think. You have deceived her for so long, fed her your cum for months on end, and yet she can't hate it. She can't bring herself to be angry, because she LOVES the taste of your cum, now having associated it with her cream puffs. You have successfully made Hanyuu become addicted to your semen, and she can do nothing against you because she can't go without it any longer. She is now lower than even the most degenerate of whores, as even they do not like the taste of cum. You have ruined her for other men, and have made her entirely accustomed to you. You could probably get your dick out right there, in the club room, and she could do nothing but try and milk you for that delicious cream she now craves. You have broken a goddess.
>>901that's cool man i just think shes cute and all
>>444I can recommend reading the manga if VN aren't your thing.
The anime leaves out a lot of scenes included in the manga.
It's still jarring to me, being an oldie, seeing this get a resurgence in the last few years

If Rena wasn't insane, she'd be perfect wife material.
>>523Had no idea about the original sprites. The version I have (a VNDS port) didn't include them so I had no idea they existed. I'm too used to the newer ones to part with them now, but the originals do seem to have a charm to them.
