hi, anon. last night i slept okay. lately, i've needed to turn on a podcast so that i can fall asleep and stay asleep. also, i habitually sleep with my window open, and as a consequence i wake up with an itchy nose.
>How many hours of sleep do you usually need?
i can function on about six, anything more than that is a bonus. though once i pass nine hours, it's difficult for me to get out of bed when the time comes.
>Did you have any dreams? Do you ever have any recurring dreams?
i didn't dream last night, but recently i dreamed that an old childhood friend of mine got trapped in a small pit and her body was melting into mud. i had to leave her to melt but it wasn't worrisome. later in the dream i got to drive a very fast car with bright orange seats. as for reoccurring dreams, i'm often with a baby/otherwise small animal that i have to look after.
I slept great. Between 6 and 14 hours but the most common amount is 9 hours. I dreamt a dream involving eating others dreamers because they kept hurting others within their own dreams for weird reasons. It ended with me having to be conscious enough to continue their dreams for them but there was a conflict between those dream contents and my vision of them, since I didn't understand their real substance. Since they were ultimately mutable it just ended with them changing, even though I didn't want that outcome, I value spontaneity and originality too much to lose that. The only reoccurence in any of my dreams is an extremely vague relation between experiences in my life.
>>4759>it's difficult for me to get out of bed when the time comesYes, the less I sleep the more willing I am to get out of bed, but it's the opposite if I sleep for too long.
I'm trying to get some decent sleep but I'm a night owl who hates the daylight. I also have this mental rule which means no gaming or anime during the day. I also work better at night so I stay up late. I really want to get a normal 10pm to 6am sleep cycle but I can't make it work.
this is OP. good morning everyone. having coffee on the porch :)
>>4759>lately, i've needed to turn on a podcast so that i can fall asleep and stay asleep. In high school, I used to listen to true crime podcasts while sleeping. For some reason I used to get the hardest sleep of my life that way. these days, I keep a radio by my bed that I tune to a dead channel for white noise.
>>4760Are you stressed out about something? My grandpa was doing the same thing while he was renovating his bathroom because it was stressful. He would wake up in the middle of the night and just play solitaire on the computer until about 4 in the morning, and then he would go back to sleep.
I sleep about three times a week because of my schizophrenia.
>>4866Do you mind telling a bit more? Just curios.
My sleep ran away.
i sleep pretty well most nights. 7-9 hours.
Lately I have been bursting into hives when I lay down at night. Its not my laundry detergent and its not dust mites. I use hypoallergenic detergent and my girlfriend slept in the bed with no issues.
Its affecting my sleep. I couldn't get into a good sleep until about 2 in the morning. I kept waking up to itch and scratch myself.
I'm miserable bros
>>4874It could be your girlfriend
>>4875he probably picked her up on a street…
>>4874Could be an allergic reaction or stress hives. Either way antihistamines should help but I would go see a doctor if I was you.
>>4875I was about to say it sounds like cooties.
>>4874I figured it out.
It was my magnesium. I got a bunk product.
I ordered the stuff I usually take even though its a bit more pricey. I can't afford to not have good sleep!
Has anyone here ever experienced Restless Leg Syndome?
>>4966It's good that you found out what was going on, try to get your supplements from more reputable sources in the future. Magnesium also stays in the body for a long time, a month or so, and it can build up over time. Excess magnesium can cause brain fog / an IQ hit and a few other things that can be hard to track down, so consider how much you take.
I've had good luck with melatonin, but it seems like it affects me much more than other people, the biggest benefit for most people it seems is letting you have a more consistent bedtime.
>>5193I never heard about it building up in the system. I take about 500 mg nightly. I've taken double the past two nights because my legs have gained a mind of their own between the hours of 11 PM to 1 AM, and I typically wake up at 7 am. Do you think thats too much? Where did you learn about the brain-fog/IQ effects?
>>5184^
This is me. I typically take it because of my RLS but it hasn't been working lately and I am trying to find alternate solutions.
>>5188I'll try some lifestyle changes next. I *am* pretty stressed out at the moment. Its funny that stress responses the body has can compoun stress, causing more and more stress responses. I just started taking L-Theanine. I've heard good things about Ashwaghanda but I've also heard it makes you go bald, which is why I've been hesitant to try it.
>>5197> I take about 500 mg nightly. It depends on if that's magnesium threonate or citrate, or the dose of elemental magnesium. The RDA I think is 300mg for most adult males. It also of course depends on how much you already get in your diet.
>Where did you learn about the brain-fog/IQ effects?forums about nootropics, but it's been a while. If I remember correctly gwern.net has an interesting / one of the first writeups on magnesium brain fog, but it's one of the things that comes up from time to time when people discuss magnesium supplements. Magnesium is an NMDA antagonist which is why it helps with your restless leg syndrome, I belive that's also the suggested interaction that causes brain fog. If you don't care it's probably fine, but it's something to think about and be aware of if you're taking magnesium supplements. If you feel tired and like you can't focus, try stopping for two weeks and seeing if it helps.
Had a dream about my former school peers bullying me again. I tried to get back at them, but turned out everyone supported the idea of bullying me, because for some reason I was the lowest hanging fruit. After semi waking up I mentally killed them all in several ways, but I wish I could do the killing while entirely in the dream. It would have been far more satisfying.
>>5232Don't you feel bad for people who are cruel like that?
>>5233I don't consider them human, so it doesn't matter.
>>4758about eleven hours last night… no dreams, but i feel good!
>I take magnesium to help me get to sleep before bed. Im curling up with some manga that I'll read until I get too sleepy to continue.comfy! i do that too sometimes…
>>5232>>5235were people at school really that mean? killing all of them seems harsh…
>>5203good points… i take 50-60% of the RDA for magnesium myself, and i get the rest from eating some nuts. i haven't experienced brain fog or feel like i've become dumber yet…
>>5261>were people at school really that mean?Probably not. I'm a fucked up friend.
Had a dream involving my first crush of at least a decade back and I can't get it out of my head. I can usually forget a dream in a few hours but this one's been messing with me the whole week. I didn't think I still even had her in my head but the subconscious reconstructed her perfectly. Mannerisms, the way she talked, the way she looked, the way it felt when she'd hug me. All of it was like I was back there in school yesterday. There wasn't even anybody else, just me and her.
The brain does some messed up stuff sometimes, man.
>>5731Friend at least it's not anxiety that doesn't let you sleep no matter how hard you try. You're good!
>>5760Have you tried eating fruits at night? Eating grapes and have yourself a hot chocolate baverage could help you sleep better at night.
>>5761Thanks, friend. I'll try that.
Awful, as usual. Slept about five hours. The other half of the nights I sleep for twelve. Takes hours to feel awake, sometimes the whole day. At least I'm somewhat entrained, which is better than where I was a few months ago.
>>5193Anything over 2mg melatonin will probably make you groggy. Some studies suggest .3mg is the optimal dose. How much were you taking?
>>5760Ever tracked your sleep with pen and paper, anon? It's always helpful to see the pattern of your sleep written down. You sound like you have delayed sleep phase disorder from that description.
I sleep much better now that I moved to the room on the dark side of the house. If I also figure out how to make the place quiet and if I'll have a good reason to actually wake up, it would be even better. For now my only two reasons to wake up are noise and toilet.
>>5830.3mg / 300mcg
I haven't taken any for a month or so now and subjectively it's a bit better, but I have other weird health problems so it's not clear if it's the melatonin or not. Eventually I'll do a test and figure it out but I haven't had time.
>>5884What kind of walking is that?
Ugh, my headache is killing me. Magnetic storms are cool and all, but being affected by them isn't. How often do you wake up because of headache?
>>5887Rarely. But I haven't slept well in ages and can't seem to fix it.
>>5886the kind of walk that happens when you don't get enough sleep that night.
>>5887I've heard of magnetic storms, but don't really know much about them. Is it an issue that only really happens further up north??
>>5889It's more of an issue the closer to the pole you are, apparently. And then it also depends on the severity of a particular storm — the worse the storm is the further it spreads. Yesterday, for example, it was level 7 out of possible 9, which doesn't happen that often.
4 days in a row without a good night’s sleep. I keep waking up in the middle of the night and panicking when I see the clock.
>>5897More than a year without a good night's sleep. I kinda begin to see.
>>5892great step in the right direction sleep friend!
Last night I had a dream where I was running away from a crowd who were shooting at me in some abandoned cityscape. I had a revolver and, naturally, I shot back, killing several. Then I spotted a machine gun nest under a water tower, I got to it and pressed 'E', and the animations of charging people falling as they were mawed down by machine gun were amazing. They tried to flank me unsuccessfully, and finally they unleashed a cavalry charge of about a hundred people. Those got so close that I distinctly saw each face before a bullet stopped them.
I don't usually have violent dreams, and I didn't play any action games the day before.
>>5984I just woke from a dream of rescuing and tending to slave girls. Can't possibly describe the mixture of feelings I'm experiencing. It didn't go anywhere though because I'm not horny right now.
I slept pretty good last night.
I need 9.5h or otherwise I start accumulating debt. I might not notice it the first three to four days but after that I start feeling worse (but not sleepy for some reason). I also wish that I didn't get eye bags when I sleep less than ten hours. Feels unfair
I can't tell if I have recurring dreams. Sometimes the settings and mood seem exactly the same as a dream I've seen years ago but I have no idea if I've actually dreamt it before.
The biggest help to getting sleep has been a bright light lamp that I use for 30 minutes to an hour every morning close to my face. I could go just outside but I'd rather not
>>4758>How did you sleep last night, anon?I slept around 6 hours. Wake up feeling like shit, but I attribute that to my lack of exercise yesterday.
>How many hours of sleep do you usually need? Did you have any dreams? After working some nightmare shifts in an old job, I try to get 8 hours every day if possible. As for dreams, for many years I couldn't dream or remember my dreams, it was depressing. I've started dreaming again after eating some edibles some months ago, granted I get really anxious when I ate them, but being able to dream again feels way better.
>Do you ever have any recurring dreams? Some recurrent dreams/nightmares are
>being a teacher again>being at that bad job again>body horror (hair, teeth or nails falling out, or digging out objects from my body)The best dream I had recently was a Death Race/Zombie game/Comedy film mix that was really fun. I wish to dream something like that again.
