Best girl by a mile. Sleek, wholesome, driven. Everything you want in a gal.

Unclear is manga-ran is actually pink haired - I think the anime wanted to make her a counterpart to Lum. Ran-Lum.

these two work together well.

Imagine frolicking in a field with Ranchan?

The anime had to choose a hair color and not giving her dark black hair makes sense. Rumiko would later do official colored Ran art, and variously gave her pink or orange hair. I don't know if that means anything or if she just thought those colors looked nice.

>mfw trying to figure out why someone wouldn't immediately fall for Ran

Rumiko tends to recycle designs, but they're more akin to "echos" rather than straight copies. However, Ran is used with only a slight hair color change for Akemi. In fact, upon seeing images of Akemi, I thought it was UY eps that I had somehow missed.

These two make an ideal comedy dueo.

Ran is just Maris's design. Rumiko made up Maris for a special edition and then reused it less than a few weeks later.

Why Ran and Lum work but Benten and Oyuki do not. Lum and Ran develop more than one simple gag and can do many different things. Benten is just the bitchy biker gal and Oyuki is just the cold distant bitch.

Ran can bake. Ran can cast high level magic. Ran can create robotic dolls. Ran has a rivalry with Lum. Ran wants to pursue Rei. Ran likes to play with Ataru to mess with Lum. Ran goes to school. In other words, they do things and aren't static characters.

Ran-Chan, it’s a call from your “cold distant bitch”

>>2025
This feels like a threat, knowing the extremes she’ll get into

>>2012
Ran can't cast magic.

Is Rumiko a closet case? Her comics are full of gender-bending, lesbian baiting. In the end, Ran used her life drain kiss on way more women than males.
