>Art style

Starts off as a very 70s looking series with very skinny females, and unrealistic proportions. Ataru is especially unrecognizeable in early chapters. Rumiko's art style evolves, with more realistic proportions and more curves for the women. Faces are quinticential 80s style.

>Focus

Starts as Shinobu and Ataru are accosted by "Urusei Yatsura" with some inspired by Japanese folklore. Then it's a Lum and Ataru will they or won't they story focused on Tomobiki high school. Introduction of Mendo and Onsen Mark becoming a regular character, and Sakura becoming the school nurse, mark the change. Lum spends less and less time wearing her tiger striped bikini.

For art style changes: Reminder that this is supposed to be Ataru and sakura.

For art style lowpoints: The all-time record has to be "Terror of the Girly eyes Measles" OVA. A late 1991 OVA by a different studio than the last OVA and appears rushed and low budget. Ugly art style, bad animation. While Always my Darling is forgettable, this is downright offensive.

On the opposite end, the Madhouse OVAs are top notch, and some of the best the cast has ever looked.

Early Lum has very, very, thin shoulders and a wide head. It gives her a kind of lolipop look.

We can see Shinobu, whom is also drawn quite thin here.

I believe these may also be tributes/parodies of manga covers and art, likely horror comics.

Kurama also has a giant head and thin body, meaning it's not just Lum. It's just how Rumiko drew young women back then.

Some volume 14 shots, about half way through when Rumiko has established her art style. Larger, thicker bodies, and more realistic proportions for women. Chapter pages seem to uh "accentuate" the feminine figure as well.

The 2008 Swim Meet OVA is forgettable, but the art style is fine.

She was supposed to be a one-off villainess after all. Urusei Yatsura was supposed to be an episodic series where Ataru and Shinobu struggled with Ataru's curses for ghosts, aliens and his penchant for womanizing. Lum became such a fan favorite that Takahashi re-worked the whole series. This is like fundamental Urusei Yatsura knowledge.

Movie 5 has Lum look very old and mature (even though officially still 17).

>It's because she's past done with everyone's shit.
She's the one who messed everything up in the first place.

Everyone else's problem now
