>>3123The roots of this site are in the old Urusei Yatsura threads back on 4/a/, even if I didn't actually launch the board for a while. UY is near and dear to me - I even ran the original storytime on 4/a/ as well as a few marathons of the 1981 anime. /lum/ is meant to be for all rumiko series, in fact at one point it was /rumi/ but I changed it back to /lum/ since people have been using that much more. It was never meant to be "just lum" and you can tell since there's other characters from UY and even other Rumiko series threads. I am thinking about restructuring the boards somewhat but /lum/ is very unlikely to be removed (it already was once before and people complained a lot). I don't think /cel/ and /lum/ are in some sort of competition, though I understand the topics overlap so maybe I will find a better way to organize the site.
If you have more concrete ideas on how to accomplish this I would appreciate them
>>3124I get you really like Lum but do we really need a whole board for her? /rumi/ makes more sense but still where do I post stuff then? Should I put it in /cel/ or /rumi/? and so stuff just gets disorganized and takes away from /cel/ which is the whole point of the site. RETRO ANIME. make UY threads on /cel/ so there's actually stuff going on there. one active board focused on RETRO ANIME is better than a retro anime board + this one specific old anime/character board. Its confusing. Just merge them.
>>3125This
>>3124>it already was once before and people complained a lotits kinda dead right now and 90% of the threads are low quality lum posts
Colonize is a bit much but I see where OP is coming from. It would be better if there wasn't a /lum/ board. Tbh I don't think /digi/ should exist either. Like is there a real reason anime should be seperate? Its like having two film boards with one called black and white and the other one color.
>>3124What about making /lum/ a hidden board until this place heats up a little?
>>3123>>3127If there ever was a board that colonized wapchan it’s /kind/, this is yet another excuse for just creating another /a/ like on 4chan and that’s not what wapchan is. If we merged all of those together we’re just gonna get the attention of shounen shitposters like on /a/ and plus4chan and KILL all, retro discussion entirely. Is this what you really want? It’s just gonna be current shit without any distinction from what this website was specifically made for. /kind/ has colonized wapchan, not /lum/
>>3128And another thing that bothered me was that there’s still people on 4chan making very few retro threads and in particular people were claiming that we should go to wap instead and how an /ar/ board would never be made, this place is a saving grace for me. If we just merged everything together we might as well just go back to 4chan and I’ll go back suggesting an /ar/ board.
>>3129And one final thing, these suggestions are mostly made by former /kind/ refugees. In other words they’re try to keep this website to THEIR accommodations than to wapchan’s. This is a retro anime website first, kindmoe died years ago
>>3130Sorry about all of that, it’s just that I don’t want to go back to 4chan
>this is yet another excuse for just creating another /a/ like on 4chan and that’s not what wapchan is. If we merged all of those together we’re just gonna get the attention of shounen shitposters like on /a/ and plus4chan and KILL all, retro discussion entirely. Is this what you really want?
/digi/ is trashy anyway. Just image dumping. /lum/ is empty. /cel/ is a good board where there's actual discussion. if you hate the name /a/ so much just call it something else. /ar/ or /retro/ or /vhs/ whatever suits you. Put in some rule against the shounen shitposters. None of this is hard. I just want A RETRO ANIME board where I can talk RETRO ANIME without having to split my attention across 3 boards and 2 of them being on life support. I dont see why there are all these diehards for keeping a lifeless board like /digi/ where nobody posts anything and there hasn't been a post in days. I wouldn't have a problem with these lifeless boards if people actually post on them otherwise they are just a dead weight. I'm not even a kind refugee lol but get off your lazy ass and make posts if you want these boards to live. No use in being jealous of other boards. Personally I really like the idea of having a /lit/ board but guess what its empty. What's it doing there? What's the point of keeping that board on life support? Nobody posts there. I hate to say this but just get rid of it.
>>3130There were suggestions to add, remove, and merge boards before /kind/ even migrated here. /kind/ is just a boogeyman for you to blame all your problems on because they're foreigners.
>>3132>I'm not even a kind refugee lolWho could've guessed? It's almost like /kind/ generally minds its own business and keeps to itself.
>>3128/kind/ has a vent thread and an advice thread and is more or less a site lounge now. You would have those type of threads even if /kind/ wasn't hosted here.
>>3133Its the lack of discussion that irks me. Even on those old forums, there is a discussion going even if it happens over months. Often, threads on wap don't get replies or maybe a handful here and there. There's not a lot of discussion going on.
There are two problems with wapchan as it is. A. The low user retention B. The vagueness around what 'retro' actually is which leads to confusion. A. Really mystifies me because a lot of effort has gone into this place. B. can't be simply solved with dates and cut off points. The word 'retro' taps into an aesthetic that's narrower than any simple definition. This probably creates confusion and when people are confused they lurk, they look at what other people are posting for guidance, and that's when problem A. becomes an issue. Hostility doesn't help.
No good comes at laying the blame on specific boards because we are all users of the same site and we should want all of it (and not one part of it) to succeed. I see a lot of people here complaining about 4Chan but behaving just like them by attacking other boards, being hostile to outsiders, begging mods to delete X or Y thing. Now, all of that said, I do think the site could be leaner, maybe better labelled?
>>3136>>3135I apologize, got a little carried away and let it out, I just wanted a place where I can discuss pre-2000 material and the like.
Updated the server and didn't realize it broke posting, my bad
we don't really need /lum/
bring back /ran/
I'm tired of lumfrens shitting up this place. They post nothing of value. They barely post anything at all and hate other users.
I'm tired of kindfrens shitting up this place. They post nothing of value. They post too much and hate other users.
Do you see what happens when you start hating literally half of the userbase here, anon?
>>3148It's hard to imagine a more unproductive thread than this one.
>>3149Agreed, but sometimes people have to get the script flipped on them to understand when their comment is dumb as fuck, even though it's not a guarantee they'll actually understand it. But I like the UY-ness of Wapchan, it's the big reason why I'm here even though I don't comment in /lum/ all that often.
>>3150Is this like a reverse parody where you're making fun of someone making fun of someone else except you're as serious as the original guy, but only ironically?
>>3152Almost, you just went one layer too deep, making fun, yes, ironic, yes, serious, no. I like the kindfrens except for when they make posts like a fresh new door, free of hinges, but then again, I see some unhinged-af posts from Lumfrens too so maybe we're all just retarded
Just delete /kind/ and /lum/ both
>>3155Just /kind/? I'm in.
/lum/ is trash rn very low effort give it time just slow
>>3156without /kind/ and this place would be deader than a cemetery
>>3160same anon, just want to say that I SPENT TWO HOURS MAKING THIS, IT IS ALMOST 4 AM WHAT AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE
>>3162I refuse to let /lum/ have low quality high quality UY content if we can do better
>solely because of you making up a 981 byte limit.
I'm not making up a 981 byte limit lol. Don't be delusional. Nice work thou.
[compresses your PNG]
>>3164Ah I misread what you meant, but still, this is why I like this place more than /r/uruseiyatsura. There's way too many people more unhinged than I there.
>>3166>There's way too many people more unhinged than I there. How unhinged?
>>3315Not unhinged enough.
This site needs more energy.
