/wap/ is for discussion pertaining to wapchan itself. please do not use this as a "random" or otherwise off topic board. thank you!

How do I remove that horrible sidebar and return to the previous design without annoying "useful" features? Figamin, we love you, but please don't go modern-internet on us. Turn it back. I want my threads as a list like before. I want a zen page without sidebars. I want images to load full-sized only if I click on them. I don't want THIS.

>>3482
I thought people would like it. I guess I really do need to take a break from site development.

How do you think we're gonna get more traffic around here?

>spam
I've been having problems with wapchan's reply system. I hit reply but the post doesn't show up until later. Sometimes it works, then the other replys I tried to post originally show up afterwards.

>It's not in first 5 pages iirc, so no one would care about it uless someone bumped

People can scroll down the page you know. Through the catalog. There was like tons of spam in the screenshot. There's no way that was a coincidence, it was definitely linked in some way.

>>3456
I am not actually sure why this happens to be honest since it's inconsistent.
At some point I'll look into it further

>>3456
They literally raiding and spam their own /qa/ daily

>>442
By 4chan making mistakes, which it did with newest 4/jp/'s bumplock on threads that get oldish.

Spreading the word about wapchan. I found wapchan through another forum

When is the IRC coming back up?

WHEN IS THE IRC COMING BACK FIGAMIN?

>>3466
You can use #wapchan in Rizon.
Only issue is I don't have admin perms since my old rizon account got deleted and someone idling there took over which is why I haven't promoted it.
I'm just not sure what name to use for a different channel that wouldn't confuse people

>>3467
Pretty sure the Rizon one is dead

>>3467
you could setup an onionshare web chat page (onionshare.org). It's really easy to setup, is just that only onion user can join. What's interesting about onionshare web chat is that, the ability of the host admin able to ban user from webchat. Yeah, you can have that kind of power tripping measures dispite of connecting through onion service network.

I didn't even know that there was an IRC. I would love to join if it comes back up

When will wap have a /pipe/ board?

I'm waiting for the occult and paranormal board

>>1389
Was thinking of getting into smoking a tobacco pipe like one of those fancy suited people. anything you'd recommend?

>>1405
We would have to sacrifice a Lum Stormtrooper to the Waplonians for that to happen.

>>1409
Smoke good ol' Native American terbackco.

>>1405
may i suggest rotting angels’s paranormal board?
https://rottingangels.org/supernatural/

>>1389
fugg, first unelum thread on da site.

Since I redesigned the homepage, I had the idea of incorporating the sidebar into the main thread design, and updating the threads themselves to be somewhat closer to a forum. I am still testing things out but I wonder if people would be alright with this. It's a break from the traditional imageboard look but I think it'll be more distinctive.

>>3472
The sidebar is cool but I think you should try to preserve the Futaba layout for the threads as much as possible. It's what Kissu does.

>>3472
I personally prefer the traditional imageboard format, but I do like the sidebar as >>3473 said.
Maybe have a way for posters to toggle both of these features on and off?

>>3474
Also a way to toggle what boards and posts from boards you see on the front page would be nice. Like, for example, hiding posts from the sports board.

>>3473
>>3474
I also think the separation between the attachment and comment doesn't really work. It makes it look like an avatar on a traditional forum.

Alright, for now I'll move it back to a more futaba style layout with the sidebar. I'll send a screenshot of that when it's closer to being ready.
>>3475
I'll try to see if this can be done
>>3476
I guess you're right, I just thought it looked clean but it does give off that impression.

im getting tired of these shit pointless threads about tululoo or whatever the fuck it's named. there should be a word filter for that.

I think you mean Touhou.

I think the site itself is legit but the person posting it is a schizophrenic indonesian, you can read about him here

Hi wapchan admins please check your email.
I am an imageboard admin from another site. I've been battling cp bots and have made moderate success. I want to share intel and technique. I emailed your admin yesterday but Im impaitent.

TLDR; Internet defence against the dark arts club

James? Used to be on lainchan?

>>3460
"just download my RAT and you will be free from CP"

To combat CSAM spam once and for all, I created a custom captcha for this site (and a similar one for 39chan), where you select characters in a grid. If there are any issues let me know. Sometimes it generates too many boxes so in that case just retry it.

I do not know who half of those people are.

>>3397
Which is why the greater the number of characters, the better. Because you still know the other half.

Ideally, every other captcha refresh should offer a character that an anime-friendly anon can name without thinking. Leaning too heavily into retro anime won't only filter out bots and haters, but will also create a problem for anons who prefer newer anime. Note that this isn't about what anon watches currently, it's about the earliest that anon can comfortably remember while watching 30+ anime titles a year.

I think, chosen characters should form a bell curve and the bulk of that bell curve should be between years 1995-2007. That way both /cel/ and /digi/ generations will be happy.

So, I want to ask just in case. What happens if I typed "Mion" in Shion's captcha? The system accepted it, but, umm…

Her real name is Ryuuguu Reina but when I type that in, the verification doesn't accept it. Rena is just some dumb nickname.

That's it, you are going to the fridge.

Another year has passed, and Wapchan has just about made it to four.

This year had the greatest challenges the site had ever faced, with handling the traffic from the 4chan downtime and the large scale raid/DDOS from the bald man site. But through it all we managed to make it out with this site being not only more active and well known than ever, but finally SAFE. The last illegal post was over three months ago, as this version of the captcha I developed has been completely effective at its job of stopping that dreaded form of spam (as well as raid attempts).

The biggest surprise of the year was the /sp/ board becoming by far the most active on the site. They adapted very well to the site culture and I'm sure they'll keep at it over the next year.

I also would like to highlight the staff of Kissu for being such great net friends - they're helping keep the /qajp/ spirit alive, and they've helped me here and there when I've needed it. This goes for the rest of the net friends (and the sushis). Thank you to Verniy, 777, syrno, pwohmy, moth, mori, Puzzle, gloot, and the other staff that keeps this part of the imageboard world a place worth your time. And of course, the jannies of wapchan, who rest much easier these days now that they don't have to wake up constantly checking for bot spam.

Another bring spot was the soku tournaments. I'm still not great at that game but it's nice that they've managed to form a community here always up for a match.

This year I read a few great visual novels, worked on a lot of personal projects as well for anyone who follows me on xitter and met a lot of great people who enjoy this same kind of niche content. Thank you to all who make Wapchan the /kind/est imageboard around while still being interesting. It's a tough balancing act but it's something I really believe in.

Moving forward, I'm looking to bring back the IRC in the new year, as well as expand the radio variety. I'm probably going to be less directly focused on developing wapchan now that it runs itself to an extent outside of the occasional captcha bug here and there, but I'm still going to run events and keep this place tidy. I want to commit a substantial amount of time to a few topics:
