I think it's great to admit when you've made a mistake, especially 30 years down the line. Many people would defend their bad design choices until the bitter end.

Not shmup-related, but it reminds me how the creator of Rance IV came out of retirement to release a balance patch that halved the encounter rate and doubled EXP gain. He was replaying it and realized how grindy it was, so he decided to fix it. Some Japanese devs are just built different like that.

>>1903
I agree that this game is a masterpiece, the visuals and gameplay are among the best I had seen for a port from the 68k!
I also recommend RagingBlasters that recently surprised me! And even if it's a run n gun… Valfaris for gorgeous graphics!

>>1910
samefrenging but the game is -50% off on steam!

>>1902
Blue revolver is a shmup that I have played. I've heard that it's a good introduction. Haven't managed to 1cc it though. I quite like the soundtrack

i gotta recommend Triggerheart Exelica, if for no other reason than the S tier character designs and music

AI War is an asymmetric strategy game where a player(s) squares off against two AI's in an almost hopeless battle. You get to conquer the entire galaxy in an extreme underdog scenario. Some people even called it the Dark Souls of strategy games - completely seriously. Anyway, it's really hard and it's got multiplayer, so obviously let's play it.

Get it on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/40400/AI_War_Fleet_Command/ (75% off until Jan 5)
Get it on GOG: https://www.gog.com/en/game/ai_war_collection
There's crossplay between Steam and GOG, so it doesn't matter which one you get. You'll need all expansions to make it work out.

Here's a good video summarizing it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWVqfdG3uTY There's a good wiki if you look and a bunch of tutorials in-game to get you started.

If you dudes live in Russialand I can gift you a copy on Steam. You'll have to link your profile for me to add you. Otherwise, I'm sorry, I can't gift across regions and I don't wanna yo-ho-ho things or promote that anymore. Don't worry about ping, unless it's an extreme case it doesn't really get all that bad (if it does, there's game settings to compensate. Sorry, Venezuela-anon.) Also, it's sysreqs are so low it can probably run on a thinkpad.

We can do a multiplayer game at Friday, at around 11 AM GMT. https://time.is/GMT . I'll try to post it here if it happens, or if there's some emergency you'll hear about it. Cheers, dudes.

Lobby's up, same IP as >>1968 . Sorry for not posting progress, it's somewhat slow with 2 hours per day sessions.

It's a slow, yet persistent grind. We've conquered the upper annex - AI won't send their assault there now. However, some other puny humans or something want our help. They're threatening to explode us via AI annihilation if we don't capture and subdue them. Can we make it in time to capture them?!? Find out on the next episode of AI War Z!

Notice in advance: tomorrow there will be no host at 2 pm. Please join up the day after tomorrow!

asdasdasd get in same ip >>1953 (You) (You) (You) (You)

If anyone's wondering what's going on, we didn't die. We got everyone's contacts, so this board wouldn't get spammed every time there's a need for three people to get together. You can still spam this thread and join in that way at 2 PM, though.

Anyway, we got some things done. We gave up on expanding into the lower annex and secured some space. There's some very tasty fabricators - MLRS Tier 5 ships, Space Tank Tier 5 ships, Tier 5 Flaks and Spiders. We're practically near the AI Homeworlds now.

This game is kinda fun!

anyway we failed.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS LIST:

Played a Warp Jumper (!) game
Turned the game into an RTS by clearing almost every planet
Captured tons of fabs and special goodies
Parried numerous Cross Planet Attacks's
Deleted one AI homeworld, almost deleted another
Ran out of metal near the finish line and lost
Reached an AIP score of 1500+
Blew up giant AI fleets with nuclear missiles on our own planets (4+ TIMES)
Got overwhelmed and perished in a blaze of glory

see you next time…

What was the first computer you've ever used? Mine was an iMac G3 in Bondi Blue. It had a load of games installed on it from what I remember.

Gateway 2000 P5-133, then some version of the Dell Dimension line. Had virtually no games, just used it to play movies and occasionally browse the net when family members were not screaming at me to get off the line so they could make calls. The first one I actually owned was a 2004 HP Pavilion laptop. We could not afford many games, I remember playing the hell out of the 1999 Aliens vs Predator and the San Andreas PC port also this Half Life mod Insurgency.

i think it was a old early xp yellow PC, i'm not sure what where the specs though

Some white tower PC from a local computer shop. Can't remember much aside from seeing pic related every time it booted up and using Windows 98 as its OS.

Some IBM thing that me dad put together, I wish I still had it.

The purple trim version of this.

Hey /vr/, I started playing the PS1 Residen Evil games during Halloween last year.
Finished 1&2 and absolutely loved them, took some time to get used to the controls but it was totally worth it, didn't expect to have this much fun.

This year I will probably play RE3 and Nightmare Creatures.
Also kinda want to play Shadowman, but I think that one takes longer so perhaps I will postpone that to next year.

Are you guys planning to play any spooky games on Halloween?
Which ones?
Also feel free to recommend any spooky games in here!

Very nice OP. I went through REmake back in 2014 and really loved it, I was waiting for the eventual REmake 2 so I didn't play RE2 until the last week before the REmake 2 came out. I had a blast going through it in one 8 hour sitting in a cold, dark January afternoon to night (pic related, terrible shader looking back but it's how I played it) just before starting up REmake 2 five days later, both are tied for my favourites in the franchise.

How are you playing them? RE2 and RE3 have A LOT of different versions and changes. RE2 especially. If you're going to play RE3 I'd say look into the Gamecube version as it has an actual zbuffer for all the models so they're not warping (unless you like that), 480p background and some other stuff.

This was also my favourite theme: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5KEHOU3ChN8

>Are you guys planning to play any spooky games on Halloween?
Sadly, no. I only ever did that once back in 2019 when I went through Castlevania Lament of Innocence in one sitting on Halloween literally for that reason. Really good game, felt like DMC1 mixed with a metroidvania and was pretty fun. The start was a bit boring due to how easy all the enemies are but it picks up as you go through it. Had a cool subweapon system, everytime you killed a boss you'd get an orb that you could use to "upgrade" your subweapon to do different things, five different sub weapons along with five different orbs meant you could have around 25 different weapons to use in the game which is quite cool. I stuck with the axe throughout though since it was super powerful. Although the MP system was a bit shit and I never used magic much. I felt Lament was much better than Curse of Darkness which felt incredibly boring to play by comparison due to all the mindless running around you do in that castle.

My favourite theme from that game as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZLRnQqEyt0

>Are you guys planning to play any spooky games on Halloween?
I don't live in the US but yes!

>Parasite Eve II
I finished the first game a couple of years ago and I loved it.
>...Iru!
A JP exclusive horror adventure game, there's an English patch available since last year.
>Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
One of my favorite games.
I still have my save file from back when I first played it but enough time has passed so I figured now is a good time to revisit it.

>Also feel free to recommend any spooky games in here!
This is a JRPG but since you enjoyed the Resident Evil games I think you might like Koudelka.
Don't let the 4 Discs intimidate you,it's not a very long game.

The last old horror games I got into were Parasite Eve, Dino Crisis, and Fatal Frame 2. I enjoyed all three a lot. I supposed FF2 is a bit on the newer side, but its almost been 20 years. I love the camera mechanic, really unique game.

>Shadow Man
I've been playing this recently for the first time (the remaster), and I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would (I only played the sequel back in the day which was pretty dull and average from what I remember). I'm "only" about 15-20 hours in, but I can recommend it if you like the sound of a vast, non-linear, labyrinthine, exploration-oriented, horror-themed 3D metroidvania-style platformer. And if the blood and guts don't scare you, getting totally lost in a deep, branching network of disorienting and claustrophobia-inducing corridors and a seemingly-neverending series of interconnected rooms with multiple exits that all seem to lead to completely different areas with a new set of paths will!

Alien Isolation is a great game that needs no introduction but anyone who sinks hours into it will realize a glaring flaw: the ease of saving. Even on the highest difficulty setting (nightmare), there are no shortage of checkpoints where the player can save, all conveniently placed together. You quickly realize that missions can be played piecemeal, hopping from one save point to another, as the game neither forces nor encourages you to travel far to complete tasks or explore. If the alien mows you down in a hallway, simply reload and try again with the foreknowledge of what's lurking behind the bend. What was once cat and mouse chase quickly becomes a tedious game of trial and error.

When its appearance isn't scripted, you can evade the alien with ease by slow walking to your objectives and saving as much as possible along the way. The station's androids are the more fearsome irritant than the alien itself, often cutting off your escape by lurking around exits while reading off lines from corporate ads. Like advertising, fighting them is futile. Just take your beating and reload from the nearest save, a stone's throw away.

If Alien Isolation didn't make it so easy to save and pepper levels with easy to reach checkpoints, it would be consistently terrifying and cut down on the tedium. Once you begin to treat save locations as the focal point of levels, the game quickly looses the pulsating tension that makes it so great. If saving required a consumable item, a la Resident Evil, it would dramatically cut down on the player's ability to cheat his way through the game and out of a great horror experience.

This all points to one of the main reasons we don't have good horror games these days: emphasis on convenience and gamers needing to be coddled.

I love both but I suck at tetris

i love both but i suck at puyo

I like Puyo but holy hell I get 20 combo'd into oblivion online.

I like Tetris the most. The one on the DS was really cool, I liked the pacing of the "campaign" where as you get further the more frantic the music got. The remixes they used were really good, and the multiplayer was fun.

>at least we'll finally get destiny 3
Doubt it, after what happened with psygnosis , sony might just shelf bungie and its games for good.

>>1760
I'm assuming Edge of Fate and Renegades will sell just well enough that when the hammer comes down, Sony will see there's still enough interest to be profitable. It won't be Bungie anymore because Sony will have kicked the executives and taken full control, but I can imagine them seeing the potential of Destiny 3.

So, Marathon has been delayed. No new date was stated but they did say they planned to release it before the end of the fiscal year so Bungie execs can get their bonuses. Pretty much kills any hope I had that they had something crazy up their sleeves. Nope, it's just an extremely bare-bones extraction shooter.

Other than that, there are rumors going around that Xbox is going to be laying off up to 2000 people sometime this week. Whole industry is doing really bad right now. I think the contraction will do good in the long run though.

Update after 4 months

Marathon: I played in the new technical test happening right now and it is worse than before. TTK was severely shortened so getting one-shot out of nowhere is very common. Without some kind of PvE-only mode, I genuinely do not see any way this game reaches past a niche audience. Oh, did I mention people are hacking already?

Destiny: The game hits new population lows every week. Every TWAB and update is worse than the one before. They announced they are going to give returning players a metric fuck ton of free loot when Renegades launches in December. I think this is make or break for Destiny. Hopefully, Sony sees some kind of value in the franchise and keeps it around in some form.

Microsoft: Game Pass cost them billions and they are no longer doing exclusives of any kind. Their next console is rumored to be some high-end PC hybrid that will cost up to $1200. Will most likely be their last piece of hardware.

Nintendo: Switch 2 is the shit as the original, just more expensive. The games are more expensive and are hollow shells void of any substance or enjoyment. Pokemon continues to look like a N64 game.

Sony: Live service era decimated this generation but their other divisions offset the financial hit. Let's hope the PS6 isn't shit.

Valve: btfo'd CS2 schizos lmao

That's all for now. Will likely use this thread to live update talk about the Game Awards. Have a good day.

I slept through the Game Awards when it was obvious nothing I cared about was going to be shown and it looks like I made the right decision. Nothing of real interest was shown and the final announcement was a medieval hero shooter lmao.

See you guys probably sometime after the new year. Have a Merry Christmas!
