Can someone recommend me strategies for beating one of the clean ones like EoSD? I get to the Patchouli stage and I die immediately each time I get to the boss. On normal.
https://youtu.be/mBEc028gGpI?si=TjIN7ycVjUKFJQLv&t=917 this one kills me too much

>>1239
I consider it at around the same difficulty as EoSD which is the game most have played, just less RNG on boss spellcards but on wonder stones.

>>1241
I don't know if you've played IN yet but Mystia teaches you where to focus your gaze for dense patterns like this.
https://youtu.be/V747Azfw_pI?&t=87
Putting your face physically closer to the screen can also help.
Otherwise, there's no shame in bombing through it.

>>1241
Tip: Patchouli's lasers don't hit you if you stand perfectly in center, the laser hitbox vanishes before it visually does. The fire projectiles also have a smaller hitbox on the sides and the way patchy shoots them always leaves big gaps between them, pay more attention to the smaller yellow projectiles there. Lastly, as I always recommend for EoSD, don't be afraid of bombing. The spellcards are RNG when it comes to density and speed due to the leftover PC-98 hidden rank system and some projectiles (especially Sakuya's knives) have a wonky hitbox that can hit you from a longer distance than you think.

>Patchouli's lasers don't hit you if you stand perfectly in center
i could have saved myself so much trouble…

GGs! Whatever you're doing to improve is clearly working out. Playing better than usual has become the new usual. Congrats on the double digit wincount and thank you for hosting. Very good soku.

>>3293
Ggs! I'm still not quite on level to challenge you on BO30 distances, but up to BO9 it sure is competitive now.
Also just realized that I've been using my general deck with 2 coins and hangeki all this time instead of full firepower one. I'm starting to get the idea of coin but it's USELESS against Alice and it was awful when 3/5 of my hand was filled with defensive cards I don't use. Deckonomicks is hard…

Welcome to something new… a PoFV tournament! July 19th at 12PM EST.

Rules are a modified form of the tournament standard:
1. All tournament sets will be played in a Bo3 (best of 3) format. This means that the first to win 2 full games in a set will be the winner.
2. The games are played on the Lunatic difficulty. (This is mainly to speed up sets)
3. The winner of a game in a full Bo3 has to stay on their character pick while the opponent who just lost has the option to choose who they want.
4. The map Misty Lake is recommended but not mandatory.
5. All participants must be able to host a game on Adonis2 with either Radmin, Hamachi or port-forward. Please prepare beforehand to make sure you can host, ask on the thread for a test partner.
6. Pausing mid-tournament set is not allowed but can be overlooked if it there was a good reason for doing so.
7. Replay auto save must be enabled in Adonis. After a match, zip the replay files into a single archive and send them in the cytube channel as soon as possible. These will be used for the stream, and shared as a tournament archive. Also make sure to edit your name in the Adonis2.ini file while you're enabling replay saving.

Sign up at https://challonge.com/tournaments/signup/Pni1FYVwy1 or drop your name below.

Streaming will be at https://stream.wapchan.org/r/touhoutourney

After you get the game, enter DDDSSSSQRR on the results page to unlock all characters if you haven't already. For setting up netplay and PoFV tips, visit https://maribelhearn.com/pofv

You didn't do that bad actually, especially for first-timer. If you're feeling up for more later, check picrel, that's pretty much anything you need to know about PoFV mechanics, so you can dodge not only hard but smart too, since scoring is your main offensive tool in this game.

>You didn't do that bad actually, especially for first-timer.
Thank you, but just to make clear I've played PoFV before, normal on all characters, hard on Marisa-Cirno-Mystia-Aya, lunatic Aya, extra on Komachi-Eiki-Aya. Also some matches against computer. The first time referred to playing against human.
>If you're feeling up for more later
I usually can find some 20-30 minutes on weekends.

If you didn't know, gikopoi has a chess feature, that would also be easily accessible and viewable by all. This competition would be sometime in July

Suppose I wanted a thread where I can post game analysis; should I use this /djn/ thread since it's already here, or is it more appropriate in /gens/?
I need to start studying master games and think having somewhere to post them would be a good source of motivation. I just want to ask where before I go hijacking any threads or making new ones.

Probably here to keep it all in one place

Alright, time to embarrass myself, starting with the greatest game ever played, just for posterity. I don't have anything deep to say about this one, but it's a really cool game and a hell of a good example for aggressive chess, so at least maybe some Wapanese will see it for the first time here. If this post is too big, bulky, or generally shit, just say so and I'll delete it.

Paris, 1858. White: Paul Morphy. Black: Charles II, Duke of Brunswick and Comte Isouard de Vauvenargues playing in consultation with each other.

1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 d6
Black goes for the Philidor Defense and already I betray my lack of chess knowledge. There's nothing outright wrong with this opening, so far as I'm aware, but I've never seen it mentioned without it also being said how passive black's position is. There's probably some playable line, but this definitely isn't popular compared to, say, the French.

3. d4 Bg4 4. dxe5 Bxf3
Morphy immediately destroys the center. Black trades on f3 because recapturing the pawn immediately leads to a loss of castling rights. (4… dxe5 5. Qxd8+ Kxd8)

5. Qxf3 dxe5 6. Bc4 Nf6 7. Qb3 Qe7 8. Nc3
Probably the main reason this game is so beloved is because of its simplicity. Morphy first creates a mate threat with Bc4, and when that is blocked, immediately threatens to take black's castling rights with Qb3. Black allows the lesser of two evils, that is, leaves the b7 pawn hanging as there's no way to stop both threats, but Morphy decides to keep developing- another point of brutal simplicity. The line I quickly looked at that goes into an endgame is (8. Qxb7 Qb4+ 9. Qxb4 Bxb4+ 10. Bd2 Nc6 11. Nc3 Rd8). Aside from the sheer hanging blunder that is …Nc6 12. Bb5 (I said I looked quickly), it's similar to the position the engine comes up with, with no apparent way for black to stop the queenside pawn storm.

…c6 9. Bg5 b5 10. Nxb5
All hell now breaks loose.

Here is fine - we can just use this as the chess thread for now even if it's not on the right board (with the restructuring it will probably get moved)

The first game in Alekhine's book. A really cool defense against the Ruy Lopez, sacrificing a rook and activating the bishop pair with 17… d5 and throwing an unstoppable attack at white's king. Goes to show what you get when you trade your most active piece for your opponent's least (not a trade per se but it might as well be with how many moves the knight makes for the rest of the game). There's a lot of variations in the book but I wanted to at least post the main line itself. Black's every move from 18 onward is so strong.
Did the tourney die? Hikari had the most active thread about it and it's been dead for two weeks.

I believe we are on the brink of facing off against a massive purge of the unofficial Touhou OST uploads.

I have been seeing more and more copyright claims these days.

This Moriya thread: https://moriyashrine.org/threads/touhou-20-osts-possibly-being-removed-from-youtube.2505/

The TOUHOUMUSIC subreddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/TOUHOUMUSIC/

And this site: https://nautilus.nekoweb.org/en/writing/touhou-death/touhou-death

Are so far the best sources of information of what is getting taken down.
I think we can confirm that something very strange is happening with the news that PC98 songs are getting wiped off SoundCloud.
See: https://www.reddit.com/r/TOUHOUMUSIC/comments/1kp6efv/even_pc98_got_copyright_struck_come_on/

All I can say, WTF is happening. I hope the more historic uploads of the OST don't get wiped…

I think you're strongly underestimating the severity of AI incorporation. ZUN could have been convicted of sexual assault or child pornography and the backlash would not be as bad (knowing the average Touhou fan). It represents the cessation of human efforts to tyranny. The cessation of a medium to a handful of corporations that have been antagonistic to all demographics. The cessation of creatives having any ownership of their creations. The cessation of visibility and communication to a deluge of irrelevant drivel after years of already being punished by biased algorithms.

It very strongly affects many people and ZUN sold himself as a cottage little guy, so it represents this entire doujin scene being closed off into an AI only shithole like so many other mediums. What good could come from this? Will conventions have to let in AI spammers? Will Touhou forums have to let in AI spammers? Will contests have to let in AI spammers? Of course! It'd be hypocritical when the king is naked. You take one look at the turdstorm AI spammers have left the areas they're free to reign, and you basically see what ZUN has rewarded the creatives that supported him with.

Frankly there's very little that can invalidate 30 years of work, but destroying every Touhou outlet and a significant portion of the doujin scene for the people who supported you for years would do it.

>>1390
Anon, I dislike AI as strongly as you do, and my previous post accounts for it, but I do think you are overreacting in a climate ripe for overreaction.
I am glad I am not the only one who thinks AI is a disgrace for art. I have already argued in that other site why I believe that to be the case. But that left aside, I don't think you are actually evaluating the situation.
Touhou 20 is not the product of AI. It still is a creation of ZUN, at least until confirmed otherwise. He did not ask Adobe AI to "make th20 for me lol". He probably has used it in moderation, so maybe 5%, 10%, or 20% tops (I seriously hope not more than that) is the result of AI. ZUN most probably has thought out the story, designed the characters, composed the music and made most if not all of the programming himself, and then cut corners for some of the smaller parts he probably found tedious.
Not that I like it. But getting some help from an AI is not the same as AI generators (I refuse to ever call them artists)'s spawns of the devil that little by little plague the web. He is not welcoming purely AI generated fanart, at least not until he says so himself.
ZUN's opinion on this should also be taken in account. From what I know (and this one I haven't actually heard from him myself, but only read from other anons), ZUN seems to have a rather lenient stance on AI. His boomer glasses reflect to him a similar situation that what must have happened when he was experimenting with computers. Yet he was able to create his oeuvre with them, so for him creators should take advantage of that shiny, new tool to create something original and exciting, like he did in his time. It is clear he didn't choose the AI he used lightly either, since Adobe AI at least advertises itself as "respectful of artists" and only "enhancing their imagination" (you can look up their website).
Now, I think there are more abstract reasons why AI cannot make art, but ZUN probably isn't taking them into account. What I want to say, I guess, is that you can think ZUN has fucked up, but the Internet drama around this, as it tends to happen in imageboards, has sometimes been bombastic, painting ZUN in the bleakest of lights possible, instead of arguing about the reality of the "incident" (if I may say so).

>>1338
Is this really a big deal? I could see if this affected gameplay videos, but people don't use youtube as their primary way of listening to music, do they?

>>1338
Next time you make an outrage bait "touhou is over" thread for the sixth? seventh? time, please bother to spell check your subject…
Hard to not see this as anything more than concern trolling.

>>1403
I can see why it's so contentious. Youtube has been the primary gateway for westerners to get into Touhou for as long as it existed on the platform. How many times have you seen it said where one's first exposure was a video of Night of Nights, UN Owen Was Her, and Bad Apple? It's ingrained in fandom culture, such that Ruw doing his thing to make way for the official OST to be published to youtube music feels like a stab in the back to the fans who paved the way here.
The main issue comes from the complacency of both sides. The western fandom has been allowed to by and large do as it pleased for twenty years since the guidelines on fancontent have been left greatly unenforced. Touhou has always been this mystical thing in the west as ZUN never had any presence there to claim it, but at a glacial pace he's moving onto large platforms such as Steam and now Youtube. If I hazard a guess I'd say music rips will be taken down in waves as more and more of the music makes its way there officially.
>I could see if this affected gameplay videos
The danger to that is from Youtube's end with their hit and miss detection programs. Since the OST for 19-20 is on Youtube by the actual owners of the music, Youtube's system can trigger copyright automatically, such as the case with mtb's enoko video. We'll have to see how it all shakes out in the long run.
>but people don't use youtube as their primary way of listening to music, do they?
You'd be surprised at the amount of norms who do this. I used to do this before I realized I could just download ZUN's entire collection to my phone and let a local music player app handle it. Music discovery is another factor which Youtube is good for overall, which feeds back into the earlier point as a gateway into Touhou.

I'm bumping this thread. Forgive me, I'm old and late.

I figured there would be a crack down on the free sharing of OSTs and songs after Touhou Spell Bubble came out. If you don't know they were selling DLC packs of 15+ year old fan songs for a lot of money. Buying them all required dumping $1k+ USD into the game. Last I checked anyway they've probably churned out more DLC packs since then. The entire game is based upon the music (tempo/bpm controls difficulty and makes each 'stage' unique). I was honestly shocked at how much they were expecting people to pay to play it online legit with other people. Which is why I ended up pirating it and will probably never be able to afford to have the game legit. I wanted to support ZUN and the other creators but there is no way I could justify dropping that much money on the game. I was already going to have to buy a console I didn't own for it as well. So all-in it would have cost me upwards to $1.5k-$2k to play that game.

As far as I've seen the game is 'dead' in the tournament scene as well. So one of the primary reasons I wanted it no longer exists. Yet they still refuse to reduce the price of the content. The base game comes with almost nothing. You even have to beat the story mode to hear/play Bad Apple stage.

This is what happens when you "go legit" like 2hu has in the west (and east I assume, do they even use steam over there?). It isn't just ZUN you have to worry about with the greed. It's every single circle with a backlog that now has a way to turn that backlog into cold hard cash. People must be buying this stuff because otherwise I wouldn't see it up for sale every time I log-in to steam (which isn't often). Lots of people that have never played a 2hu game before are getting into it through those games being listed in the store fronts. They aren't like long time fans that played the shumps and listened to music for the last two decades. They do not even know most of that stuff exists until they search for 2hu on some place like youtube. So it is not surprising people have started to claim copyrights to drive people to their own official uploads of the songs.

I have personally maintained a channel on youtube that uploads full albums for a long time. I rarely check it these days unless I decide to upload something from the backlog. Since it was mostly focused on uploading rarer albums from people that have moved on to Gensokyo. I just checked that channel for the first tPost too long. Click here to view the full text.
