I feel like this board has always been under the radar compared to the other boards on here. Any of you have ideas on how to increase activity?

Honestly, I forget it exists. I usually use the overboard and pick and choose which thread to post in. Sometimes I post 2000s stuff on cel without really thinking about it.

>>309
This might be a good idea, and to stop people talking about currently airing thing you could push that to a single thread if they wanted it. So the board is mostly pre-2000s, scatterings of 2000s threads and one thread of 2010s onwards

>>307

Starting threads about anime made in this time period would help. Most people are reactionary and you wont get much activity waiting for others to get the ball rolling and show interest.

>>309

Then you just have /a/ which already exists and you will have the same problem you started with.

Maybe change the font to something that not complete pain to look at? Seriously I can't read anything here for more than 2 minutes.

>>332
did you ever try hitting the "font override" checkbox?

>>333
I just did, thanks. You should make it harder to find.

I can see this place needs some action.
Soundtrack/OST thread, post some soundtracks and music you like.

For how good it was, the two Ef: series are almost never talked about today. Or maybe it was because I watched it 10 years ago, but it is a shame that’s it’s passed over for other anime at the time

Does it suffer from the usual problems VN adaptations tend to suffer from?

>>240
Yes, definitely, and this seems to be a controversial opinion because the ef adaptation is very highly rated basically everywhere. Note that I only watched the first season, and that was also a long time ago.

I played the VN first and it's one of the best VNs I've ever played. If you haven't played it, there are 5 separate arcs (the VN is linear with one heroine, but the arcs have different protagonists) split up into two games. The first season of the adaptation adapts the first three arcs, which are the first game and the first arc of the second game, which is strange considering these arcs are meant to be sequential and yet in the anime they happen simultaneously.

The game gets progressively more depressing as the arcs go on, culminating in the final arc. Therefore, the first two arcs aren't really that depressing, the main thing I liked about it is the love triangle being portrayed very realistically. Unfortunately, like most VN adaptations, the slow-paced style of the VN turns into ADHD like rapid speed with multiple arcs being shown in one episode shoving a 30 hour game and the first third of another 30 hour game into a single cour. And yet, shaft STILL has the time to have five minutes of absolutely nothing happening except text appearing on the screen for no reason other than to portray the heroine of the first arc as having crippling dependency issues, which she doesn't in the VN. The drama is ramped up to a million, making the "realistic love triangle" into yet another example of a love triangle where the characters are insane and do extremely inhumane things to each other for no apparent reason.

It's a real shame, because I love ALL of shaft's other shows of this era, and yet ef seems to stick out like a sore thumb as the only shaft show that I really truly hate. The only real positive about it is that it looks gorgeous and the symbolism, but that's expected of the studio.

>Thanks for this anon. I'm not the guy you're replying to but I have been meaning to get into this series for years now but was indecisive since I didn't know whether to get into the anime or the visual novel. The anime looks beautiful and the animation is also pretty good, but I'll stick with the visual novel because of those caveats that you had mentioned. Again, thanks a lot!

I'm trying to rewatch some anime I remember fondly to see if I can enjoy them the second time around. This time is Kyou no 5 no 2 or Today in Class 5-2 and I would like to post the experience in a few days. I would like to hear your experiences and suggestions on rewatching stuff too.

Even when I was a kid I had superb taste so if I rewatch something, I usually enjoy it as much.
The other day I said I should rewatch something I DIDN'T enjoy all that much and set up FLCL again and actually enjoyed it a hella of a lot more than I did the first time I watched it.

The good parts were still there but the old cliché tropes were worse than what I remembered.

I was surprised to hear anime used the same song "Secret Base (Kimi ga Kureta Mono)" from anohana.

That's nice.
I also recently rewatched FLCL after not having seen it for the better part of a decade or so, and I would say I appreciate it even more now too (though I've always enjoyed it).
I took the opportunity to watch it with the director's commentary track as well which I'd recommend. Lots of fun information to be gathered from it even if you consider yourself pretty familiar with the anime already.

>>119
something similar happened to me. i watched FLCL in 9th grade and i did enjoy it for it's insanity more than anything, then i rewatched it a couple of years later and i enjoyed the story, characters, look, music so much more. I've been meaning to rewatch monogatari this year but i haven't started yet

Have you read/seen it? I've been reading the manga for the past few days, it's pretty fun.

>>102
I have. To be fair, I love it for the art (as expected from Shaft), but not so much for everything else. While the humour in it is amusing at times, more often than not it can be difficult to understand for a non-Japanese, due to it's parodying of Japanese society. Moreover, it gets rather repetetive, especially that the anime spans three seasons. It's just not for me, although I can see why others may enjoy it.

Hello wapchan,

There are some additional information in this thread: https://img.heyuri.net/b/koko.php?res=21258

CAUTION: I should mention the anime contains mild nudity (it's an ecchi anime LOL), and the OVA sequel episode is plain 18+. So if you are bothered by this or underaged, please do not join

>>84
Sweet, will hopefully join if I have some time today.

>>84
I'm a little too late but now I'm just fucking around in the server lol

I just finished watching it yesterday. It's somewhat slow, but the journey of the main characters was interesting to sit through and Johan is a magnificent villain. The ending was also kind of a surprise but satisfying

>As I said, it WAS slow, but the cast of characters kept me going.
Yep, it's a slow burn but very worth it. I was surprised I was able to keep up with it despite not being a fan of longer shows, I'm guessing the dub helped in some regard.

>I thought Johan's motivation was that of causing chaos wherever he went, but it all made sense once it was explained he was erasing his existence.
Yeah, as I said in my other post I originally thought it was about another Hitler but I after that I thought that it was just that Johan was a force of chaos and Tenma noticed this and since he saved him he decided it was up to him to stop him, which Johan gladly accepted since if Tenma doesn't stop him he'd continue doing this. It wasn't until I read up on it that I actually understood the ending, my own stupidity at seeing the bigger picture I guess.

>I was a little under that impression as well but with all the parallels of Johan being the Antichrist I expected someone wanting to use him to kill people indiscriminately
For me, it was the scenes I saw, the neonazis and the whole German/East European feeling it had.

If you're okay with watching some videos on Monster, I remember finding these in 2020 and was a fun distraction for a while to watch. If not, that's cool thought I'd share regardless:

Watched it a couple of years ago and it's one of my favorites.
It does feel slow but it all pays off.
Lunge is a masterful character, there was always something alluring about him, this computer of a man that dedicates himself completely to his cause.
The ost is incredible, the op and the eds add to the theme of the story and set the mood for each episode.
Its been a while since ive watched it and i hope i will get to rewatch it soon.
>>77
I didn't know the novel existed, have you read it? would you say it's worth reading ?

>>80
Sorry anon, I haven't read the novel. I just know of it from an article I read that pretty much broke the whole thing down so I know what happened.

Johan Liebert is my waifu.

I don't know why, but there's something about 16:9 anamorphic widescreen, 480i video on DVD that has a special charm. Do you know any good anime in this resolution?

>>46
I remember finding out that the last season of You're Under Arrest had both a 4:3 and 16:9 version which was pretty cool to see side by side, could try that even if it's not exactly what you're after it might scratch the same itch. It's not that great though.
