Can there be a live action east-asian media board? I happen to love Japanese tv and film, but I seem to be the exception. Most fans of anime-manga, overlap with other Japanese media such as doujins, video games, and so forth, but not so much live action.

For myself, I actually don't like "japanese media' or culture per se, it's a kind of style and aesthetic that appears in some Japanese media but also elsewhere.

Imo, I feel like it's better to avoid making too many boards on small websites like this so discussion doesn't get split up and make the site feel even slower. There's already a media board with some threads vaguely like you describe (Japanese horror movies, Hong Kong action movies)

He’ll yeah! I love that stuff but just use the existing boards for that.

In recent memory it has to be Crumbling Tower of Pizza and just the entire Final Boss as a whole. Being able to cut each boss battle's health in HALF was such a lethargic feeling when initially seeing there was a Boss Rush lined up. Really turning the concept on it's head by making YOU the boss battle. The whole last segment just does a good job at feeling exactly what Peppino is feeling all the way through.

Lay off any alcohol or drugs when confronting family. Save that for afterwards if you really need to.
Second, don't involve your brother because that sounds like you clearly have a huge problem with him. Focus on your other family members like reconciling with your mom. If she brings up your brother just apologize for last time, and say maybe you're not ready to handle him and want to focus on one family member at a time. If they aren't dirtbags they should at least understand, even if they dont like it.

I had an irl best friend for about 7 years. Out of nowhere they told me that we can't be friends anymore and it was like their entire personality changed. They got rude and smug and they never told me why. I've been a mess ever since and I don't know what to do. I really didn't need it, because a lot of bad sh!t is happening already. I used to think my talents would get me far and I could live an interesting life. What does that actually mean though? Maybe entertainment media has made us painfully aware of how boring and mundane our existence is. Manual labor, some kind of bullshit job, or a soul crushing spirit sucking office job of endless meaningless paperwork… and on top of all that the chronic loneliness, the emptiness, the fact that I go outside to touch grass in the ruins of the real world and in there is nothing much to do but roam endlessly. I just wish things were different. Sometimes I wish I could just run away to Hokkaido or Panama or somewhere interesting and escape this horrible feeling of nothingness, but what would I do then? Would I feel any different?

Genuinely think that most people posting these type of sites, NEET or not, are suffering from some kind of low key functional depression. In fact I think most people are like this now quietly.

Only a God can save us.

Your thinking seems to be predicated on wanting to self-actualize and yet finding the world unworthy but the contrast between your own sense of self worth and the world's worth is making you unmotivated for some reason. I think caring at all about worthiness is pointless, to an extent actively harmful in your case, and most people, even outside of those who use imageboards, would benefit from getting more physical activity and exercise.

 No.3295[Reply]

In response to >>1262 I'll make a brief post about why colors were so damned good in cel animation versus modern productions.

1. Paint

They're quite literally using real world paints on plastic cels to photograph so the colors are much better quality and more realistic.

2. Film stock

They were shot on 16mm or 35mm film, and film stock had strived for decade for rich strong colors and strong contrasts. Most television anime was shot in 16mm film, and 35mm used for theatrical films or television OPs.

Then they shifted to digital formats, and with them digital color spaces and palettes. More washed out, lacking contrast, overly bright, like there's a haze or some kind of bright light out. This is also an issue for live action productions.

>shading
>the great thing about 1980's and early 90's anime
I just want to point out how very wrong this cherry-picked infographic is. The amount of shading present in an anime has pretty much always been a matter of budget (OVAs and movies will generally have more/ more detailed shading than TV) and in some cases artistic choice. Most television shows in the 70s and 80s would only use 2 tone shading on occasion, it wasn't until the 90s that it became the norm most of the time (excepting certain shiny details like hair and eyes). I would assume that the website which loves Urusei Yatsura so much would readily recognize that most of it's one tone. Even in the 90s, they'd often subtly slide back to one tone here and there depending on the production team. The Kodocha screenshot here is from the 90s for instance.

You'd be hard to find a modern show that consistently has one tone shading, besides continuations of old stuff like Shin-chan. All that being said, I still prefer the look of cell-era shows. Not because of some numerically disprovable superiority, but because I generally prefer the character designs, animation style, painted backgrounds and the plots (wow).

I meant to quote this. I'll take the opportunity to post some more typical 80s tv examples. In order to supplement one tone shading, shows like this would sometimes employ hatching (drawing a bunch of little lines to make a color darker). The effect can vary from nice looking to awful, it's very typical of Hokuto no Ken in my mind.

File: 1785842486435.jpg (67.07 KB, 720x525, hnk.jpg)

>>4530
Actually, I think HnK is a bit of an outlier in general. I'll switch from 1 tone shading in one scene, then go to 3 tone in another, while simultaneously using heavy hatching with both.

 No.4547

>>4529
I don't think budget had that much to do with it, it's mostly stylistic choices. If you look at feature films from the 80s and compare them to OVAs, the films are usually more likely to go lighter on the shading than the OVAs, but have higher cel counts in comparison, which is much more of a cost multiplier because your inbetweeners get paid by the drawing at a flat rate, irrespective of how many lines are in the drawing or how high or low quality it is.

Heyya,

there is a new iteration of /kind/ again! To celebrate it, its planed to stream some show again. This time, everyone here should vote on what will be streamed. The options are:

- Sōsō no Frieren - Laid-back, but also sad slice of life story about an elf-girl realising she will outlive every human around her.
- Scavengers Reign - SciFi animated show that follow survivors of a space ship wreck that now have to survive on an alien planet and adapt to its unique flora and fauna.
- Hilda - Bluehaired girl lives through various adventures vaguely inspired by Scandinavian lore. Very beautiful.

Just post which show should be watched and if possible also prefered timezone, to make planning a little bit easier.

The first streams should start this weekend so (2024-05-11/12). The exact time will be set on friday, for now its planed to stream each day for one hour.

Welcome back /kind/!

Sorry to correct you here, anon, but both the main 110-episode series and the Gaiden series are OVAs. The main series has never been on TV (afaik) and was made specifically to be released on home-video.
>I remember trying to get into the series three times (once in 2015, 2016 and in 2017) only to give up multiple times.
I gave it a try many years ago too, but it was only recently that I started to appreciate older anime more, that I gave it another chance, and it became one of my favorite anime ever, if not my absolute favorite. Frankly, I didn't want it to be over by the time I reached the last episode.
As for the Gaiden series, I've downloaded most of the episodes, but haven't watched any of them for various reasons.
>another anime I absolutely adore is Irresponsible Captain Tylor and watching LOGH really showed me just how much of a parody that show as meant to be of this
Thanks for the recommendation, although just by reading about it, I'm not sure that it was meant to be a parody of LoGH specifically, or at least not many people have noticed. It would be hilarious if it turns out to be true, though. I have also noticed some possible influences of LoGH in other Japanese media after watching it.

>>241
I hope you watched, and liked it. I'm always happy to see more people watching it for the first time after so many years. Despite it being so common in pretentious 3x3 threads, it's a genuine masterpiece. I mean, it does come from a novel (not a light novel) so the writing quality in LoGH is obviously superior to the average anime, in my opinion.

>the writing quality in LoGH is obviously superior to the average anime, in my opinion.
its so far beyond other anime its not even funny

sometimes i almost wish it wasnt so thick
every time i get going on trying to watch the whole series, some irl bullshit always happens, a few months will go by, then ill either lose my place or just forget everything that was going on which sucks since theres all kinds of subtle/sub-plot stuff going on at all times
certainly not a series you can just sit down and only watch a few episodes at a time of

really is on a whole other level tho

 No.248

>but both the main 110-episode series and the Gaiden series are OVAs.
Yeah I know, I was just trying to bump this thread by saying "Oh,yeah I watched the spinoffs" so I wasn't really thinking about it much. I thought it'd be easier to just call them "OVA" and "Main Series". Force of habit I guess after watching a lot of older shows that usually have a main TV series and an OVA spinoff.

>As for the Gaiden series, I've downloaded most of the episodes, but haven't watched any of them for various reasons.
It was released in a very odd order, you may want to look up a chronological series of events for each so the episodes flow better when you eventually watch it.

>Thanks for the recommendation,
No problem, I'd say it's my favourite anime. I remember falling in love with it during the climax of the 4th episode where I laughed for 10 seconds straight at how it played out.

>Although just by reading about it, I'm not sure that it was meant to be a parody of LoGH specifically, or at least not many people have noticed.
I can't fully remember how I came to that conclusion, but I do remember translating the Japanese wikipedia page and I believe it was mentioned there. Not sure if you can trust a ">translated wikipedia page" for information (it's also mentioned on the fan wiki for Captain Tylor, but again, hard to trust information), but when I was watching LOGH I just saw a lot of comparisons. According to English wikipedia, it's based off a movie called "Japan's Irresponsible Age" from 1962 which is quite similar, but there are quite a decent amount of comparisons you can make for both, plus Tylor's light novel came out 2 years after LOGH's ended.

Tylor is meant to be like Yang, albeit, a hell of a lot more easy going and downright lucky. Working for the "United Planets Space Force" and pretty much joining it for reasons that aren't relating to wanting to fight in battles but being exceptional in the battles he fights. Leading the people around him having no idea if it's dumb luck or incredible genius he plays off as dumb luck. Whereas his main rival opponent isPost too long. Click here to view the full text.
