I don't care for EoSD but the possibility of a followup PCB remake brings me joy and hope for a better tomorrow.

 No.5476

The music will not be as good. I like the charm of older Touhou artwork too, the less samey standard anime character designs. This game will mostly be the same, have remixed music, have a modern redesign for the characters, same basic story etc. like metal gear triangle.

Plus side, more Rumia. This will be her second official game? Hopefully she eats someone.

>>5473
They will not make as much money. They know nobody has played anything before EoSD,so they are gonna milk us all for $$$.

It's cool and everything but there's certain anxieties about it that I have that I haven't seen others voice (man the state of touhou discussion elsewhere is just disappointing)

The sort of horrifying thing to me is that it'll be replacing the game in its original state in the minds of all the new fans that will play it (with all its eccentrities like the fact that you only get auto pick up at max power and the like, or the low resolution of the character portraits, or how dorky the graphic design is. On that point, how people might think that the "remastered" music replaces the original which is the most scary part.) but in the end, it's probably fine. Most people struggled to get a working version that didn't go at 9000 FPS anyways and apparently there will be a rebuilt version of the original game, which we can hope manages to properly replicate it.
If they do proceed to do 7, 7.5, 8, and 9, which already seems likely. It does refire that worry in me, since those games are easier to get working on a modern machine and thus have less of a barrier, and 7 specially since to me it's a very special game from its aesthethic and quirks (and from the fact it's the game I'm most nostalgic on), in the end, it goes back to this anxiety of the originals getting replaced in the conciousness and a certain fear that others won't engage with them and appreciate them on their own terms.

Well, I'm just rambling since I needed a place to express my worries. I already feel more calm and I'm picking my hopes back up, I think it'll be good if it gets people to properly engage with the games in an earnest way and if it gets them to engage with the rest of the franchise which are far more available on their own.

>>5476
It seems that they aren't going to be redesigns but just redrawn from the original artwork, just for a higher resolution, and the translations seem to be tasked upon by known translators and all. That said, we're probably heading for another few years of EoSD dominance in fanart, which will be a bit annoying

If only. IaMP is severely underrated. A port with rollback and in-game matchmaking would be a godsend.

Heyya,

there is a new iteration of /kind/ again! To celebrate it, its planed to stream some show again. This time, everyone here should vote on what will be streamed. The options are:

- Sōsō no Frieren - Laid-back, but also sad slice of life story about an elf-girl realising she will outlive every human around her.
- Scavengers Reign - SciFi animated show that follow survivors of a space ship wreck that now have to survive on an alien planet and adapt to its unique flora and fauna.
- Hilda - Bluehaired girl lives through various adventures vaguely inspired by Scandinavian lore. Very beautiful.

Just post which show should be watched and if possible also prefered timezone, to make planning a little bit easier.

The first streams should start this weekend so (2024-05-11/12). The exact time will be set on friday, for now its planed to stream each day for one hour.

Welcome back /kind/!

how do you guys go about scanning your doujinshis?

i have been thinking of ways to archive my collection in case anything ever happens to them. thin doujins werent a problem at all, but omnibuses on the other hand…

since most of the doujins i earn arent available for sale anymore, i try not to debind as many as i can during the process of scanning them. but what do i do in situations where its a necessary step ?!😭

 No.5474

i just scan them with my phone using microsoft lens. obviously far from the ideal setup but the cropping tool is very good and will stabilize the image, plus there's b&w filters. i wouldn't dare do anything more damaging to the spines

One that requires little to no social interraction. One of those do-nothing jobs like gym receptionist or librarian but actually common and not near-impossible to attain.

I apologize for my ignorance, my knowledge when it comes to real world stuff is akin to that of a toddler since I haven't participated in society for a really long time, I humbly ask that you respond accordingly. Unfortunately, right now, I really need income so I have no choice. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do you live near any government-owned parks? They often need patrol/clerks, and depending on how rural your area is, you can go hours without interacting with another person. I worked at a provincial park one summer and spent about 10 minutes a day talking to people and the rest was just me listening to music if I was walking around the grounds or watching stuff if I was in my little booth to do write-up reports or whatever.

You can change your address on a lot of online services without needing proof, like your cell phone. Make sure you get digital bills, and they'll issue you an e-bill with the new address. Use that.

I'm not sure how useful this may be since it's been months, but a part time dishwasher position may suit you. Sure, kitchens are busy spaces but you only have to answer to your coworkers, not the general public, and something like a receptionist or librarian would require you to actively use a Customer Service Voice, which is a skill you can build over time, but not intuitive like how one uses their hands to clean off dishes.

Donating plasma was suggested and I agree! But I would not recommend it if you can't afford hearty meals, getting plasma out of your body may drain you in ways you don't expect.

I started wageslaving as a baker at a grocery store, wouldn't recommend
the good part is 90 percent of the time I'm by myself working alone, customers rarely ask questions, the hours and schedule is consistent, the bad part is a bitch manager that I'm forced to interact with, and a lot of work on some days putting products on shelves
I'm currently looking into switching to working retail where I don't have to bust my ass cleaning and working in the freezer and dragging containers on wheels around, all for min wage and mediocre free lunch, hopefully sooner than later

Working in retail store selling musical instrument can be very comfy. The place is always very quiet and cozy.

Other than that, try digital camera retail store. That place can be a very comfy work in.

i disagree, it's really not sustainable for the long-term at all. it'll end up just being used for lolisho and nothing else if it continued on that route. the admins already have targets painted on their backs for allowing it in the first place, it's just not feasible in the current western internet landscape. just ends up causing drama and overall a big stink, making no one want to associate with the site.

I know I was going to have to clarify this, but I was talking more in the sense of being judgemental or becoming self-hating in some of my hobbies thanks to the nature of CY discourse. Though it might be from years of bad luck and while I do have friends, none of them can talk what I find the most interesting things in a similar fashion. Perhaps not the most /kind/ thing to say, but I feel I am becoming healthier overall, and this is just the one way I guess I've become unhealthy.

Invidious is good but its a front end for youtube. If I search for ghost stories or folk stories, I still wind up with dozens of lore slop videos, crappy summaries, and AI generated content. I watched Memories of Murder (2003) directed by Bong Joon Ho. A South Korean film about detectives hunting for a serial killer in a rural village. This film is very subtle and famous for its surprise ending. There's lots of clever visual story telling, interesting twists, and a fair amount of humor along the way. While your generic cop thriller slowly reveals a hidden truth via science and reason, this movie goes in entirely the opposite direction by turning the detective genre on its head.

Whereas classic detectives like Sherlock Holmes use reason to expose the truth, in Memories of Murder the detectives' rationality obscures reality. They misread clues, see patterns that don't exist, and resort to torture to brute force their theories when they fail to pan out. Rationality is exposed as arbitrary, violent, and incapable of grasping reality. In this sense, Memories of Murder is a piece of post-modern anti-detective cinema.

There's also a subtle layer of political commentary: the South Korean state is constantly carrying out civil defense drills and crushing protests in the name of national security, yet this almighty institution is incapable of protecting ordinary people from a simple murderer. Korean modernity is on trial here. Bureaucracy can't solve social problems, reason doesn't bring psychological comfort, and industrial development creates a level of anonymity and social breakdown that makes it possible for a killer to hide in a crowd.

Highly recommend this movie.

 No.6659

I usually hate Holocaust movies, but The Zone of Interest is really up there. The setup is fairly simple: its about the Hoess family who live in the shadow of Auschwitz where their father serves as the camp commandant. Its not like I can add much to what's already been said about it, the film is cinematically innovative and despite their being no real gore, no real action, or pornographic visuals of suffering that suffocate most Holocaust movies, its manages to be uncomfortable. The Hoess family are painfully ordinary and the immense suffering taking place just over the wall is pretty banal aspect of their lives, a topic of dinner table conversation or watercooler talk like any other job. There's some brief moments where it falls into the typical shoah porn genre tropes, but its brief and not really glaring enough to be annoying. The cinéma vérité style might turn off some people.

Recently got around to watching it, and was pleasantly surprised to find myself loving it. Mystery was great, which was complimented by countryside setting. It really knows how to create tension and ambient atmosphere as it manage d to make me feel uneasy. Read the VN the way you want. I like both original and console sprites/backgrounds. Even if Higurashi was made for NVL style, ADV is still fine (but can get annoying for long monologues). The only important choices would be the censorship level and the OST (2014 is the original one iirc and not the MangaGamer remake to avoid copyright issues).
