The only bit of original content from here except for figamin's video essay which I thought was pretty good

Bringing it from /ocvid/ because lol nobody went there. Basically, it's a UY gag dub that recontextualizes the characters and lets them say the fuck word, updated whenever I don't find it cringe as hell.

it's not good bro.

/tv/ is talking about us again lum friens…

Seems like they’re pretty positive about it so nothing bad

The non-anime specific boards tend to be more positive about good anime than the anime specific boards.

Which young starlet has the natural charm, and charisma, to play Lum? My vote is for Sochee Gomez.

She's genuinely a decent actress. She carried TLOU season 2 hard just by her charm on-screen.

She's got the looks. She's got the bikini body. She's Lum.

Dude, just stop. You’re not even talking about UY anymore, you only made this thread as a loophole excuse to gossip about female celebrities you like

what the actual fuck is this thread

This thread is 100% kuso but it's ridiculous enough that I kind of want to keep it around, provided it dosen't just turn into a random webm dumping ground

Married… with Aliens

Was early UY one of the horniest anime shows of its era? The show actually tones down the sexuality, and Ataru's lust becomes more about the chase than more explicity sexuality. In fact, nudity seemed to mostly sidelined in the main show, and reserved only for OVA and films from there on out. Could it have something to do with the show losing popularity over time?

Sakura is especially a source of sexualization and an object of lust by Ataru, while Lum and Shinobu are presented in a chaste manner.

While not an ecchi series, it seems to have laid the foundations for them.

And whoops there goes her clothes.

Other shows of the era have more subtle panty shots.

This is a late season adaption of an early chapter. I suspect if this was Studio Peirot and an early episode we'd see a behind shot of Sakura's ass.

>>2229
I prefer subtle to horny.

I read that Urusei Yatsura invented waifu culture with Lum, is that true?

No, that was the Russians with Lev Atamanov’s 1957 classic, Snow Queen.

Post Lum with outfits that are not the striped bikini or the school uniform

Already have a Lum fashion thread:

But I wanna see her in a prison uniform. Its where she rightly belongs.

>Art style

Starts off as a very 70s looking series with very skinny females, and unrealistic proportions. Ataru is especially unrecognizeable in early chapters. Rumiko's art style evolves, with more realistic proportions and more curves for the women. Faces are quinticential 80s style.

>Focus

Starts as Shinobu and Ataru are accosted by "Urusei Yatsura" with some inspired by Japanese folklore. Then it's a Lum and Ataru will they or won't they story focused on Tomobiki high school. Introduction of Mendo and Onsen Mark becoming a regular character, and Sakura becoming the school nurse, mark the change. Lum spends less and less time wearing her tiger striped bikini.

She was supposed to be a one-off villainess after all. Urusei Yatsura was supposed to be an episodic series where Ataru and Shinobu struggled with Ataru's curses for ghosts, aliens and his penchant for womanizing. Lum became such a fan favorite that Takahashi re-worked the whole series. This is like fundamental Urusei Yatsura knowledge.

Movie 5 has Lum look very old and mature (even though officially still 17).

It's because she's past done with everyone's shit.

>It's because she's past done with everyone's shit.
She's the one who messed everything up in the first place.

>>2210

Everyone else's problem now

>it's the story of an almost 30 woman who sulks in her room and gets angry at 2 men for showing any romantic interest in anyone else despite not dating them
>and then man who does everything for her
>this goes on for like 6 years in-universe

This series is pretty frustrating.

Every Rumiko storyline is frustrating this way. UY and Ranma are just as bad.

The ending makes up for it at least in Maison.

Very late response, almost a year later post but it almost happened with me last night, was too brief to fully remember

>>563
I dreamed of an alien invasion, humanoid aliens with horns that reminded me of lum, maybe it counts?

>>824
Ok I had one last night, the main quartet was hosting some kind of podcast from their school and somehow I was able to catch it

>>840
Edit, I think I heard some of the other cast there as well, I could entirely know what they were saying because they were speaking F***ing Japanese, I think I caught it at some library or something but to me it was…surreal?

>>841
Update: Had another last night, can’t fully remember like the previous one but this time it involved Lum and her alien quartet friends busting up something shady nearby a local CVS, specifically the one that’s closest to my home, really weird and specific although I did watch movie 6 last night

just learned about this place
let's start lumposting!

It's not genius writing: if Lum becomes too nice the story lacks conflict now. So they introduce Kurama who is closer to what Lum was originally going to be, then Sakura and Ran.

>>1713
This is why I headcanon Lum as being actually competent and a bitch like in the real early episodes, because the idea that she A) can cause trouble and B) can get out of trouble lines up with how she's portrayed at times.

>>1714
The story and setting got re-written since they didn't have a plan and just responded to what worked and what fans seemed to like. The early premise seems to be Ataru and Shinobu (remember her?) being accosted by Urusei Yatsura on a weekly basis when they just want to get on with their lives and get married. Lum was just going to be a recurring harlot who is trying to break them up because she wrongly thinks that Ataru is engaged to her. Then the story was retooled to be about Lum and Ataru being together with Shinobu as the side character.

Then it was retooled AGAIN to focus mostly on Tomobiki high school - making it the prototypical high school anime. Characters like Sakura, Mendo, or Ryunosuuke have nothing to do with the original premise, but they end up taking a majority of screen time once they're introduced.

Rumiko's later works were more planned out with a more consistent premise because she and her team had more experience in what fans wanted. If they knew how the series would play out, UY would probably be a supernatural series with no aliens centered on the high school and town from the get go. Other than electricity and flying around, the fact Lum is an alien is irrelevant for 75% of later UY stories. Could have easily made her and the Oni come from subspace to begin with.
